Situation Awareness Application for CoordinatedEmergency Response
This project will develop a public safety and security geospatial system to enable provincial authorities, in partnership with local, regional, and federal authorities, to better manage emergencies. The system will enable provincial authorities to make informed decisions during emergencies and, in so doing, reduce the threat to people, property, and infrastructure.
This project is driven by the need for many agencies and organizations to cooperate closely during emergencies. Several departments and crown corporations have geospatial information that can be of value to these agencies and organizations, but the information is often available for internal use only. This project will develop a system that will enable emergency-management groups to access the information through connections linked during emergencies.
Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure endorsed standards will help users access layers of geospatial information from existing warehouses of data in Saskatchewan and from national locations such as GeoBase. The benefits of this access flexibility are twofold:
- the information is not replicated in several locations, and
- the most up-to-date information is always used, since the data comes from the primary source.
