GeoConnections Regional-Scale Information Integration Analysis
GeoConnections is working with Canadian geomatics stakeholders to document best practices for integrating location-based information on the Internet. With an ever-increasing amount of geospatial information available online, guidance on how to combine disparate data from a variety of sources to create a comprehensive view is increasingly required. GeoConnections has contracted Hickling Arthurs Low to undertake a three phase project.
First phase begins with consultations and methodology development. These consultations will identify stakeholders to perform four case studies. Second phase involves stakeholders in four workshops with managers and developers. This approach will allow analysis of various data integration issues and their validation with Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) stakeholders. Results of the study, or phase three, will guide regional organizations and communities not only to access and exchange location-based information using the CGDI, but will allow them to derive improved information by combining a number of data sources together in a common view.
This capability will empower different levels of government, regional organizations, and Canadian communities to enhanced awareness on vital issues such as public health, public safety and security, environment and sustainable development and Aboriginal issues, better equipping them to participate in decision-making processes.
