CGDI Framework Data Guide

This project will create and publicize a guide that defines Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) framework data and the ways in which this data can be used. The project will better enable decision makers in the four important domains targeted by GeoConnections to profit from the CGDI.

Underpinning many geomatics applications, framework data provides geospatial reference to physical features across Canada at a variety of scales. It also helps developers create integrated data sets for analysis and reporting.

The purpose of the guide is two-fold:

  • To inform decision-makers of the opportunities and benefits of framework data
  • To assist analysts to design and implement base-map layers of decision support systems

The guide should allow analysts unfamiliar with GeoBase to determine their organizational base-map requirements, move their users' data to GeoBase, and design a data access and maintenance approach for their base-map requirements. This approach will incorporate CGDI geospatial standards.

The guide will be of value to framework data users in governments, the private sector, universities, non-governmental organizations, and communities in the domains of public health, public safety and security, environment and sustainable development, and matters of importance to Aboriginal people.

The project will also involve conducting at least six 1-day workshops across Canada, and 2 national web seminars. These workshops will help create awareness of the guide.
