ABLE: An Agent-Based Link for Emergencies
With the new ABLE (Agent-Based Link for Emergencies) service, emergency management staff will be able to acquire vital geospatial data more easily during an emergency. This is an important advancement, for until now the use of geospatial information in many applications has been limited by the number of skilled individuals who can work with it. The ABLE system will make geospatial data simpler to retrieve and use in emergency management. The new service will be based on two technologies: Agent and Semantic Web. Using Agent technology on the data user side, the project will design intelligent agents to help automate the task of finding and retrieving geospatial data at emergency management sites. Using Semantic Web concepts on the data provider side, the project will work with two providers, RADARSAT International and Range and Bearing, to mark up Web pages for easier data acquisition. As a result of this project, emergency operational staff will need less training and expertise to use geospatial information, and data providers will find it easier to participate in the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure.
