FloodTrack On-line

An already successful service for mapping the extent of floods will become available on-line with this project. The on-line system will establish an electronic exchange of geospatial and business data with satellite stations and the RADARSAT Orderdesk system. Through this exchange, FloodTrack will streamline the complex process of scheduling, collecting images, and analyzing flood-extent information. The result will be an efficient near-real-time service that can reach users in a fast and accessible format. Quick Internet access to flood data, both contemporary and historical, will benefit flood victims, governments, emergency management professionals and the general public. FloodTrack will be a globally relevant addition to the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). Because no other system in the world provides synoptic yet detailed flood data on-line, this project is expected to attract international attention, especially during flood crises. This initiative will make the CGDI an essential part of international flood-response efforts, expanding the visibility and influence of Canada's geospatial community.
